Description
The name Scania is the Latin name for the historic Swedish province of Scania.
In 1911, the Scania company from Malmö, Scania (Latin Scania) merged with
the company Vabis from Södertälje, which was in financial distress.
In 1919, production was switched predominantly to trucks. But since the demand for trucks at that time
after the First World War was low and there was strong deflation, Scania was insolvent in 1921.
In the same year the company was re-established while retaining the name.
The last Passenger cars were produced in 1929.
The first front-drive buses appeared in 1932 and front-drive trucks in 1933.
The first diesel engines were built in series from 1936. To create a profitable dealer and workshop network
In order to be able to build its trucks and buses, Scania-Vabis also became the general importer for VW in Sweden from 1948.
In 1962 Scania opened its first foreign factory in Brazil, and in 1965 another in the Netherlands.
Although there was no dealer network in Germany yet, word got around about the quality of the products.
The first Scania trucks appeared at northern German shipping companies. Since 1963, front-control vehicles have been available again in the truck range.
Since 1968, commercial vehicles have been sold under the name Scania without the suffix Vabis.
In the same year the first sales branch was founded in Germany.
